What does the release of the iPad mean?

After weeks, months, and years of speculation, Apple unveiled its long awaited tablet-pad-thing-a-ma-app. It’s as lovely as we’ve come to expect from Apple design. We’ll be convening with our team to get their thoughts on the impact the iPad will have on the various industries who will be touched by its technology; from publishers to media companies, to mobile players and advertisers. Most of all, the question on everyone’s mind, has Apple created something that consumers want–and as our President, John Ross is fond of asking what problems does the iPad solve for consumers? Another words–is this Apple marketing and hype at its best, or is the iPad a game changer?

Even if the iPad is a game changer, do we really, as consumers, want Apple as the gatekeeper for what we consume and not (see Google’s rejected iPhone applications, adult content, etc.)? And as developers, where is your freedom now? Paying a 30% Apple tax is already very high, but the fact that developers might work on something for months and then being rejected by Apple is something we should all think about.
My own personal opinion as a heavy media consumer and researcher about the device itself is that I don’t see this device fitting anywhere in my life. Desktop at work, Laptop for home (and mobile if necessary) and the iPhone for mobile connection. So, the iPad doesn’t seem to very be something you wanna use in the subway or on the way to walk, neither won’t you use it at home if you already have a much bigger and more powerful computer at home. Reading books on the iPad seems very nice with its animations and such, but does the eye really enjoys reading from a LCD screen for hours? That’s where the Kindle winds, even though I don’t like it. Watching videos on the iPad? Really? Read my first point and now look at your 50inch TV you most likely have in front of you in your living room.
Then again, the majority of the population will buy whatever they are being told to buy, so only time will tell how the iPad will do.

I am dying to I receive my very own Apple iPad Wifi, it will add up to my collection of Apple stuff. At least that is how I pronounce it, a Gadget! I, for myself , adore apple above all other gadgets until now. It will never get frozen or get a virus (I never had any dislikes with it!). Any of you going to buy the iPad?
